The location

Located in a dense forest of hills in the Santa Rosalia area of Guatemala City, Corallo House incorporates the existing forest into the layout of the house. It combines the surrounding nature with architectural intervention; the design process began with the aim of preserving the existing trees and making them interact with the living space. Completed in 2011, Corallo House boasts an area of 747 square metres. The main structural component of the house is exposed concrete, which shows the rustic texture of the wooden formwork, allowing a dialogue between the formal element and the forest textures. Other elements used in the construction of the building are stone and wood, recalling nature and the outdoor environment.

The project

The three-storey house is column-free on the ground floor and the heights of the various floors respect and adapt to the topography of the existing landscape. Both facades are mainly made of glass, so that the interior and exterior are connected. Alta has created a kitchen for the Corallo House that has fitted in harmoniously with the entire environment, with clean, essential lines and a glossy, natural finish.
