A new residential complex in the shape of a smile stands out among the skyscrapers of the Big Apple! It’s The Smile, designed by BIG -Bjarke Ingels, one of the most famous and influential architectural firms of the 2000s. The chequered façade of this building, located in the heart of Harlem, alternates blackened stainless steel panels with floor-to-ceiling windows and is inspired by the surface of the moon. Residents of the building’s 233 flats are bathed in an explosion of reds, blues, greens and yellows, inspired by the neighbourhood’s Puerto Rican and Caribbean culture and history. The kitchens are custom-made with Alta’s made-in-Italy stainless steel cabinets, stainless steel appliances and a colour-changing LED lighting system located under the wall units.
